He had been sick several months and his death was looked for long before it came. He was born in Livingston county, Mich., in 1838, and for several years after he was 18 taught school and engaged in farming. He was possessed of an education far beyond the average of farmers of those days and for several years was supervisor. He came to Danby in 1866 and resided there until 1899 when he came to Portland village, where he died. The farm upon which he settled in Danby he owned at the time of his death. He was twice married, the second wife and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Dee Shuart of Grand Ledge surviving. Clark Pierce was an honorable man; he was a good citizen and a good neighbor, and he made few enemies and many friends, and when he died he left as about as clean a page in an individual life as any man could. Funeral services were conducted from the home by Rev Buell last Friday afternoon. Burial was made in Portland cemetery.
