Ionia Sentinel Standard, 23 Sep 1980

Thelma Irene Piercefield, 72, of 263 S. Main, Clarksville died Sunday at Butterworth
Hospital in Grand Rapids.  She was born June 28, 1906 in Remus, the daughter of
James and Cora Catlin.  She attended Mulliken and Grand Ledge schools.  She married
William (Joe) Piercefield Sept. 11, 1925 in Mulliken.  He died June 1978.  The
couple farmed most of their lives.  They sold their farm in 1964 and moved to
Clarksville.

She was a longtime writer for the Ionia Sentinel-Standard and Lake Odessa Wave.  She
was a member of the Clarksville Wesleyan Church.  She was a 4-H leader for 15 years
in flowering, gardening and sewing.  She also served as a judge at the Ionia Free
Fair for many years and was a member of the Sebewa Community Club.

Survivors include six sons, Norman and Gordon of Portland, Leroy of Lake Odessa,
Wayne of Muir, Jerry of Lyons and James of Lowell, seven daughters, Mrs. Pearl
Richardson, Mrs. Wanda Pepper and Mrs. June McCaul, all of Clarksville, Mrs. Bonnie
Kingsman of Portland, Mars. Patricia VanHoughten, Mrs. Wilma Walters, both of Ionia,
Mrs. Janet King of Tuscon, Ariz., 38 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and
three brothers.

Services will be at the Clarksville Wesleyan Church Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev.
Arthur Ruder officiating.  Burial will be in East Plains Cemetery.  Memorials may be
made to the Clarksville Wesleyan Church.  The family will receive friends and
relatives at the Pickens-Koops Funeral Chapel in Clarksville Tuesday and Wednesday
from 7 to 9 p.m.
