Ionia Sentinel Standard, 2003

Leonard I. Pierson, 78, of Prescott, Ariz., former resident of Ionia, died 
January 24, 2003 of cancer at Veterans Hospital in Prescott.  He was born 
August 5, 1924 to Carl and Nellie (Stewart) Pierson of Eastlake.  He graduated 
from Manistee High School, class of 1942.  He served in the U.S. Army Engineers 
from February 1943, and was discharged at Fort Dix, N.J., in 1946.  He was a 
life member of VFW American Legion.

Leonard was married to Anna Coleman Mills at Good Shepherd Church on August 17, 
1968.  They made their home in Ionia, retired from Gibson Refrigeration (White 
Industries) in 1986.

Survivors are brothers, K.G. Pierson, Merle Pierson of Eastlake, Terry Pierson 
and Rose of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; sisters, Reva Pierson of Eastlake, Betty 
and Harold Lytle of Manistee, Jean Edmondson of Eastlake, Jackie and Jim Ursum 
of Irons; stepchildren, Lannie and Carolyn Stowell of Muir, Harry and Christine 
Mills of Ionia, Greg and Juanita Mills of Palo; seven step-grandchildren, 
numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna of 17 
years in 1985; parents, Carl and Nellie Pierson; brother Marvin K.; sister, 
Eileene Franklin of Eastlake; two brother-in-laws, Frank Franklin, and Earl 
Edmondson; sister-in-law, Marguerite Pierson of Eastlake.

Cremation has taken place.  Family graveside services will be held in Balcom 
Cemetery in Ionia at a later date.
