A lifelong resident of Ionia, Leon graduated from Ionia High School in 1932 and completed 3 years at Michigan State College. He was a professional fruit grower, owning and operating Pierson’s Orchard north of Ionia for more than 50 years. He was active in several professional horticulture societies. For many years he was an active participant in a Polish Fruit Specialist exchange program. He was also a member of the Ionia Methodist Church and sang in the choir. His passionate hobbies were hunting and fishing the great lakes. Leon was predeceased by Jeanne Luther, his first wife of 52 years and Virginia Lange, his second wife of 4 years. He is survived by his son Roland Pierson and wife June, his daughter Kathryn Gaianguest and permanent partner Jim Gallagher, his daughter Gina Gardner and husband Gary, 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. A ceremony to celebrate Leon’s life will be planned and announced in the future.
