Ionia Sentinel Standard, Jan. 17, 1983
St. Petersburg, Fla. - Roland Pierson, 95, of 955 Fifty-First St., St. 
Petersburg, Fla. 33710 died Saturday, Jan. 15

He was born in Ronald Township Jan. 27, 1887, and was married to Edith 
Robertson in 1914.  She preceded him in death in 1956.

He moved to Detroit as a young man and worked as a contractor and builder.  
Returning to Ionia in 1923, he operated the family farm and was a fruit grower 
and had one of the first herds of Polled Herefords in Michigan.

A lifelong member of the Michigan Horticultural Society, he also served as a 
member of the Ionia City Council in the late 1930s.

He moved to St. Petersburg, Fla in 1957 were he was active as a builder and in 
real estate and where he was married to Myrtle Nichols Carter, a former 
Belding resident in 1957.  She survives him.

Also surviving are one son; one grandson, two granddaughters and seven great 
grandchildren.
