She preceded him in death in 1956. He moved to Detroit as a young man and worked as a contractor and builder. Returning to Ionia in 1923, he operated the family farm and was a fruit grower and had one of the first herds of Polled Herefords in Michigan. A lifelong member of the Michigan Horticultural Society, he also served as a member of the Ionia City Council in the late 1930s. He moved to St. Petersburg, Fla in 1957 were he was active as a builder and in real estate and where he was married to Myrtle Nichols Carter, a former Belding resident in 1957. She survives him. Also surviving are one son; one grandson, two granddaughters and seven great grandchildren.
