Pinkerton, 74, who died at Portland Monday was to be held from the residence of Mrs. Reuben Lucas, his niece, today at 12:30 o’clock. Services were also to be held at Banner Grange hall at 2:30 o’clock. Burial was to take place in the family lot in Higbee cemetery, near the Grange hall. The late Mr. Pinkerton was born at Burlington, Michigan, and came to Ionia county immediately after the Civil war, having enlisted in that conflict when fifteen years of age at Sigourney, Iowa. He was a member of Company D., 13th Infantry and served throughout the entire war. After receiving his discharge from the service he came to Ionia county, making his home in this community until six years ago, when he went to Grand Rapids, where he entered the Soldier’s home in that city. Shortly after suffering the stroke of paralysis, last August, he was removed to the home of his niece, Mrs. Lucas, where he received all the attention that loving hands could administer. With the exception of a half sister, Mrs. Amanda Carr of Sigourney, Iowa, and a half brother, Edward Strong, of Orleans, and a number of nieces and nephews no nearer relatives survive, Mr. Pinkerton never having been married.
