Piper, 75, of 909 East Lincoln, died Friday afternoon at Ionia County Memorial hospital. Born January 8, 1895, in Ionia, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Piper, Sr. He was former owner of Piper’s Tavern known at Pete’s. He worked in automotive factories in Detroit and Ionia and was a veteran of World War I. June 28, 1917, he was married in Detroit to Frances Smith and lived all his life in Ionia. He was a former member of Moose and Elks lodges and VFW. Surviving are his wife, Frances; two brothers, Fred and Vern Piper of Ionia; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Sage of Ionia and Mrs. Ella Burke of Detroit. Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Myers-Roetman funeral home in Ionia. Rev. Theodore Forbes will officiate and interment will be at Highland Park cemetery.
