Piper, 54-year old Ionia route one farmer and employe of the Ionia Manufacturing company was found dead in a chair beside the telephone at his farm on Charles road about 3:30 p.m. Monday. Ionia County Coroner Neil Phelps said Piper’s death was attributed to a heart condition for which he was being treated by a Lyons physician. Coroner Phelps said he had called the doctor’s wife about 8:30 a.m. Monday after he finished farm chores and asked that the doctor call. The doctor was in surgery at Carson City and could not take the call. Mrs. Lucille Piper, Piper’s wife, who is an Ionia county school teacher, said her husband was alive when she left at 8:15 a.m. and appeared to be not seriously ill although he had seen his doctor Saturday. Coroner Phelps said Piper was found by his son Jerry at 3:30 p.m. in a chair in the living room beside the telephone and he had been dead several hours. The body was removed to the Stebbins Funeral home at Sheridan.
