He was born on June 23, 1924, the son of George and Alice (Eppers) Piper in Vermontville. He attended school for 11 years before enlisting into the United States Army during World War II. In the time of his service, he was a prisoner of war and received the Purple Heart. He married Lucille Bowerman on February 22, 1946 in Hastings. She preceded him in death in 1993. Raymond is survived by their children, Dale (Sarah) Piper of Woodland, Michael (Tonia) Piper of Dimondale, Gary (Carol) Piper of Pleasant Lake, Kenneth (Carol) Piper of Grand Haven, Carl (Krista) Piper of Clarksville, Kay Pyconon of Texas; one daughter-in-law, Alice Piper of Bellevue; his brother, Glen Piper of North Dakota; his sisters, Pearl Shade of Lansing, Mary Peacock of Largo, FL; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, George Piper; mother, Alice Piper; one son, Duane; four brothers, Vern, Howard, John, Charles; one sister, Vivian Yarger. Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 28, 2015 at Koops Funeral Chapel, Inc., Lake Odessa. Pastor Timothy Jackson of the Community Baptist Church of Lansing officiated. Burial took place at Lakeside Cemetery with full military honors.
