The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Wednesday, December 21, 1949

Mrs. Stella Smith Piper, 82, died early Wednesday morning at her home at 617 
Bayard street.  

She was born Sept. 11, 1867, at Pleasant Lake, Ind., the daughter of Edward 
and Eliza Thompson Smith.  April 21, 1885, she married Frederick Piper who 
died in December, 1939.  She has spent most of her life in Ionia.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Emma Bensinger and Mrs. Ulmont Sage of 
Ionia and Mrs. Anthony Burke of Detroit; four sons, Frederick, Vern, and Asa 
of Ionia and Roy of Lansing; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-
grandchildren.

Services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. from Myers funeral home.  The Rev. 
Wayne Davis will officiate.  Interment will be in Highland Park cemetery.
