Piper, 87, died Wednesday evening shortly after being admitted to the Ingham Medical facility in Lansing. He was born in Iowa, September 8, 1889, the son of Joseph and Sarah Mesner Piper. He attended schools in Nebraska. Mr. Piper married the former Alice Eppers in Racine, Wisconsin in 1920. She preceded him in death in October 1949. He had been a resident and farmer in the Lake Odessa area for several years and had been a patient at the Hasslett Manor for approximately two years. Survivors include six sons, Howard of Mulliken, Raymond and Glenn of Lake Odessa, Verne of Lansing, Charles of San Antonio, Texas, and John of Eaton Rapids; three daughters, Mrs. Paul Shade of Lansing, Mrs. Mary Heacock of Nashville and Mrs. Vivian Yarger of Freeport; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Wilson of Arkansas and Mrs. Cavoile Martin of Chicago, Illinois; 32 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Pickens-Koops funeral chapel with Rev. Bill Steven officiating. Burial is in Lakeside cemetery.
