The Lake Odessa Wave-Times, December 23, 1910
Lawrence Piper was born March 11th, 1860 at Deedsville, Ind. was age 50 years 
and 10 months at the time of his death which occurred Dec. 14, 1910, by 
falling from a scaffold on the Fort Dearborn bank building, Chicago.  The 
deceased leaves to mourn his sad and untimely demise, a wife, Jennie Whitney 
Piper, formerly of Carlton, three sisters, Mrs. Mary McDonald of Denver, Ind., 
Mrs. Sufronia Eckman, South Bend, Ind.; Mrs. Amy Stelfy, Rochester, Ind.; two 
brothers, James Piper, Walthill, Neb.; Charlie Piper, Rochester, Ind., and a 
host of sorrowing friends.

Mr. Piper was a member of the Mystic Workers of the world, Lakeside lodge 931 
and of the Progressive Council of Royal Arcanum, both of which are fraternal 
orders, also of the Structural Iron workers union.

Mrs. Piper brought the remains to Lake Odessa Sunday for a short funeral 
service and burial; she was accompanied by a brother, James Piper, and Mrs. N. 
Reidy, a representative of the Mystic Workers and a dear friend of Mrs. 
Piper.  The body was taken to the home of Mrs. Anna Cheney, an aunt of Mrs. 
Piper, where it was viewed by friends.  There was a prayer by the Rev. 
Prestidge, after which the body was taken to the Fuller cemetery in Carlton 
where it was buried beside Mrs. Piper’s mother.  The funeral services proper 
were held in Chicago, and were largely attended.  The floral offerings were 
beautiful.  His death was a sad blow to all who knew him; he was a faithful 
loving and kind husband and brother and a devoted friend to all.
