Gladys M. Pitchford, age 97, of Muir, passed away April 5, 2009 in Carson City.

She was born July 13, 1911 in Keene Twp. The daughter of George and Florence 
(Sissem) Rier. Gladys married William D. Pitchford Dec. 20, 1932 in Clinton 
County. She was a rural school teacher in Ionia County for 30 years. She loved 
listening to Grand Valley Strings at the Ionia Commission on Aging. She also 
loved to sew and tend her flowers.

Gladys is survived by her children, Mary Margaret Thomas of Ionia, Patricia 
(Fred) Tanner of Texas and Jerry (Delma) Pitchford of Saranac; son-in-law Duane 
Greenhoe of Ionia; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Jean Greenhoe; 
granddaughter, Sherrie Wall; sisters, Beatrice Jenkins and Lucille Wylie and 
son-in-law, Claude Thomas.

At Gladys’s request private services will be held. Arrangements by Lake Funeral 
Home in Saranac. Anyone wishing may make a memorial contribution in Gladys’s 
name to Ionia Commission on Aging. Online condolences may be made at
