John G. Pitchford, of Ionia, age 72, passed away on Wednesday, Jan 20, 2010.

He was born on Nov. 4, 1937 in Portland the son of George and Doris (Butler) 
Pitchford. John was born and raised in Portland and was a member of the Rod 
Angels in Portland. He was a racecar and motorcycle fan who loved working on 
cars and could fix anything. He was the Crew Chief for Kevin Wadkins racing. 

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Velma of Ionia; children Bonnie (special 
friend Jack Hyland) Jollie of Mecosta, Dawn Cantwell of Portland and Erik (Mary 
Lou) Pitchford of Ionia; stepchildren, Sherry (Tom) Shinaver of Ionia, Richard 
Hilliard of Ionia, Robert (Stephanie) Babbit of Perrington and Niki (Tim) 
Osterman of Sheridan; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, 
Alice (Robert) Campbell of Arizona, Martha Pitchford of Grand Rapids and Rosann 
Pitchford of Portland; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Mitchell Pitchford and 
stepdaughter, Debra Wadkins.

There will be a Family/Friends Luncheon held on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010 from 2-4 
p.m. at the Canterbury Clubhouse. For those desiring, memorials may be made to 
the family of Mr. John Pitchford, 603 Harrison St., Ionia, MI 48846. 
Arrangements are being entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Ionia.
