The Ionia Standard, Thursday, March 8, 1877


Polk Place, a well known resident of Prairie Creek, died on Saturday of 
consumption.  Polk was a son of Porter Place, one of the earliest settlers of 
Grand River valley.  His death has been certain for a year or more, as the 
terrible disease had secured a firm grasp, and when since fairly rooted it 
seems impossible to shake it off.
