He was born June 27, 1926, in Oak Park, Ill, the son of Cyril Adams and Dorothy Wrench Plank. A proud American patriot, Dan entered the U.S. Army at the age of 15?. He fought in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He attended Ferris State College and also took extensive courses in insurance throughout his career, earning both his real estate broker’s license and CPCU. Dan was a longtime associate of Kemp Insurance Sure Agency in downtown Greenville. He was active in local politics, serving several terms on the Greenville City Council and as president of the Rotary Club. An outdoorsman, Dan enjoyed golf, sailing, hunting and fishing. He also was a licensed private pilot and was active in many other civic and professional organizations. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, John Daniel Plank Jr., in February 1983. He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Plank of Greenville; his children, Kirke and Elaine Plank of Janesville, Wis., Carol Plank and Patty Guagliardo of New York, Molly Plank-Runkel and David Runkel, Tina Plank and Doug McLemore, all of Westland; his mother-in-law, Marie Walkington of Greenville; a sister, Mary Geiger of Greenville; brother-in-law, Fred and Jane Walkington of Alma; sisters-in-law, Judy Adams of Rockville, Md., Madeline Christensen of Grand Rapids; brother-in-law, Ronald and Lela Christensen of Sheridan; five grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. An ecumenical funeral service is 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Charles Catholic Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Father Fred Brucker of St. Charles Catholic Church and the Rev. Dr. Harry R. Johnson of First United Methodist church officiating. Private interment is in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding.
