He was born on May 28, 1957 in Lansing the son of Wayne and Dolores (Thoma) Pline. Gus retired from G.M. in May 2008, he enjoyed sports and was an avid Detroit Lions fan. His favorite place to be was his cottage at Crystal Lake. Gus was a wonderful grandpa and family man, he was a friend to all who knew him, always lending a helpful hand. He had a sense of humorous wit. On October 4, 1975, he married Robin (Smith) and she survives. Gus is also survived by his daughters Penny (Jon) Johnson and Amy (Patrick) Guilford both of Portland; grandchildren Owen and Ava Guilford and Emma and Molly Johnson with baby Johnson on the way; parents Wayne and Dolores Pline; siblings Keith (Jane) Pline, Bonnie (Don) Miller, Al (Roxie) Pline, Joe (Jan) Pline, LuAnn Bartlett, and Lori (Steve) Schrauben; father and mother-in-law Allen and Lois Smith, sisters-in-law Cindy (Ken) Lawless, Terri (Doug) Hill and Janice (Matt) Newman; many nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles. A memorial service was conducted by Rev. Wayne Otto on Aug. 17 at the Portland United Methodist Church arrangements were entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Portland United Methodist Church in memory of Gus.
