Joseph “Gaylord” Pline, 76, of Portland, passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at
his home in rural Lyons.  He was born June 3, 1923, to Bernard and Katharine
(Rochlitz) Pline in Pewamo.  Mr. Pline was a 1941 graduate of Portland High
School.  He was married to the former Clara Belle Weaver on April 27, 1946, at
SS. Peter and Paul Church in Ionia.  He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church,
the Portland Knights of Columbus Council #2168 and the Farm Bureau.  He was a
lifelong farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sons and a brother, Carl. 
Surviving are his wife, Clara Belle; five sons, Tom (Maureen) of Denver, Colo.,
Mike (Jane) of Pewamo, Pat (Susie) of Johnsonville, N.Y., Dan (Sue) of
Williamston and Chris (Judy) of Suttons Bay; 12 grandchildren, Derek, Jason,
Rory, Kerri, Robin, Charliene, Francessa, Anna, Kira, Cody, Hayley and Travis;
great-granddaughter, Autumn; sister, Margaret Marsh of Lansing; and many
sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.  He was fun loving,
hardworking and will be sadly missed.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Peter Vu, associate
pastor, at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Church with Rite of Committal
following at Portland Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the
Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 1301 E. Grand River Ave., Portland, today from 2
p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  The rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m.
and there will be a Wake Service at 8 p.m.  For those desiring, memorial
contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice in memory of Gaylord
Pline.
