Poort, age 101, of Ionia formerly of Muskegon, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022. Marian was born on July 1, 1921 in Muskegon,MI. the daughter of Frank and Eva (Schutter) Doppel. On August 30, 1941, she married the love of her life, Donald Poort, who proceeded her in death on July 25, 1998. Together, they raised three children; Kathleen, Larry and Sharon in the home they constructed themselves. Marian loved to share with anyone who she me that she had made it to 100 years of age; the fact that she was living on her own until March of this year is a true testament to her tenacity and spirit. Marian was a homemaker and caretaker of her daughter, Kathleen, who became disabled at a ver young age. Over the years,Marian became a florist in her son's floral shop where she was able to practice her artistry. She enjoyed many crafts, among those she was most known for were her painting, knitting, crocheting, carving and sewing. She also wrote beautiful poetry and had a poem written about the love of her life, her husband published. Marian loved living in muskegon, going to Lake Michigan, spending time at the family's cottage, watching baseball (which she played in high school) sharing time with her family and "her Ladies" as she affectionately referred to her many friends. Marian is survived by her daughter, Sharon Nevins of Ionia; her sister, Delores Schutter of Fremont; her grandchildren; Sheri (Dave) DeGraaf, Steven (Tonia) Poort, Benson (Rachelle) Poort, Jason (Jennifer) Poort, Lisa (Isaac) Hunt, Michelle) Nevins, Kelly (Tom) Melle and Scott Braun. Marian also had 27 great- grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Marian was preceded in death by hr husband, Donald; daughter Kathleen Poort; son, Larry Poort; son-in-law, Vince Nevins; sister, Wilma Parker; brother-in-law James Schutter; grandson,John Poort and granddaughter,Sarah Ursiny. Marian's family would like to express their thanks to Laurels of Carson City, Green Acres of Ionia, Sparrow of Ionia and internim Hospice. A funeral service ws held at 11:00 am Wednesday,July 27, at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Pastor Nancy Patera officiating with a luncheon following at LeValley Methodist church. Visitation was one hour prior to the service, (10:00 am-11:00am) Interment at 3:00 p.m at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Muskegon. Memorial Contributions may be made to interim Hospice or Zion Ionia food Pantry.
