Post and Margaret Turpenning Post came from the state of New York to Wayne county, Mich., about the year 1832 where Martin Post, their oldest son, was born, on September 24th, 1836, locating in Orleans, Ionia county in 1844 on the farm across the way which was later owned by H. C. Tallman, now Hall’s Apple Ranch, moving to the farm where he died, at his marriage, to Miss Adelaide C. Tallman, in 1862, who died in 1872, one daughter, Mrs. F. C. Moys of Boulder, Colorado, survives. Mr. Post was again married to Miss Elizabeth A. Hinds, of Orange, in 1876 who, with two sons, William, at home, and Darwin, of Hemlock, survive, also one grand daughter, Mrs. Harold Washburn, of St. Paul, Minn., and one great grand daughter, Mary Adelaide Washburn and one brother, Jay O. Post, of Ionia. Mr. Post joined the Green’s Methodist Episcopal church in early manhood and the building which stands on a corner of his farm is a monument to his loyalty, having given the land, and where he was ever found in his pew at all services until failing health rendered him incapacitated. He departed this life October 31, 1922 in the fullness of years. The funeral was attended from the late home Sunday afternoon by a large assembly of relatives and friends. Rev. G. A. Osborne gave a splendid discourse, Mrs. Luther Berry, Mrs. Bert Rummler and Mrs. Clayton Knapp sang Mr. Post’s favorite hymns while he was tenderly borne to his last resting place in the family lot in Orleans cemetery by his two sons and four nephews. “And may there be no sadness of farewell, when I embark.” – Tennyson.
