Potocny, 56, of Ionia, who died Saturday in Lowell Medical Center. The Rev. Kenneth Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiated. Graveside military services were conducted under the direction of Robert Fitzgerald, commander of the Sheridan V.F.W. Post. Potocny was born in Rosebush, Mich., April 27, 1927, the son of Joseph and Regina Mazylewski Potocny. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and from Central Michigan University, with a degree in business administration. He served in France and Germany in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by Mitchell-Bentley Corp. for two years, prior to starting and operating his own air freight business in Chicago and Denver. He sold his business in 1979 and returned to Ionia to care for his mother. She preceded him in death in 1982. Surviving are two brothers, Joseph of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Edward of Ionia; and seven sisters, Louise Kobel of Kingman, Ariz.; Sofia Peterson of Lyons, Colo.; Lillian Cree of Westchester, Penna; Elaine Schwarz of Paris, Ill.; Leona Rupp, of Union Lake, Michigan; Lenore Wieber of Portland; and Carole Savage of Lansing. A memorial has been established for the Ionia County unit, American Cancer Society, in care of Leddick Funeral Home, Ionia, which made the funeral arrangements.
