Potter, 76, Belding, passed away Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997, at his residence. He was born July 6, 1921, in Pontiac, Ill., to Bert and Nellie Kunkel Potter. He graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1938. He was a lifetime farmer, and he was a Belding city assessor for 10 years and an Ionia County commissioner for two terms. He was in Otisco Township treasurer for a number of years and a former member of the Belding Lions Club. He attended the Shiloh Community Church. He was married March 29, 1943, in New York City, to Dorothy Rodell Potter. She preceded him in death on Dec. 31, 1996. He is survived by three daughters and one son: Jan and Dan Wilson of Saugatuck, Jerry and Pat Potter of Grand Rapids, Joel and Jeri Potter of Rockford, and Keith Potter of Fort Wayne, Ind.; six grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Maurice Schrauben of Orleans; and one brother, Rodney Potter of Holbert, Ind. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Coral and Hubert Potter. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Belding, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment will be in Orleans Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Belding Museum or the Shiloh Community Church.
