Members of the family of Neil Potter have been notified he was killed Sunday. He is the son of Mrs. June Potter and the late Robert Potter and was born in Wixom, September 26, 1944. He moved to Evart in 1953 and to Lyons in 1958. Following his graduation from high school in Lyons in 1962 he married Yvonne Smejkal August 27 the same year. September 1, 1962 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He took his training at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and went to Viet Nam in May 1965. His brother, George, has been in Viet Nam 13 months. Surviving besides his wife, Yvonne, our two children, Lisa Potter, 2 ½, and Melissa Sue, seven months; his mother, Mrs. June Potter; four sisters, Mrs. Shirley McClellan of Walled Lake, Mrs. Jennie Brast of Milford, Mrs. June Chipman of Evart, and Mrs. Linda Thomas of Ionia; six brothers, Robert and Jack of Wixom, Edward of Commerce, Kenneth of Walled Lake, George of U.S. Marines, and Paul of Union Lake. The body is expected to arrive within 10 days or two weeks. -------------------- Funeral service for Neil Potter, 21, who was killed at December 12 in Viet Nom, will be held at Shaw-Rivett-Hull funeral home in Lyons Friday at 2 p.m. The body will arrive at the funeral home Wednesday night. Military honors will be by the Marine reserve unit from Lansing and interment at Muir cemetery. -------------------- Shaw-Rivett-Hull funeral home was filled and a number could not get in for the funeral services of Cpl. Neil Potter of the U.S. Marines, December 24 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Fr. Paul Johnson of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Ionia officiated. Bearers were Harry Rogers, Jr., Gaylord Ferris, David and Dwight Barclay, George Hopkins, Dale Wood, Dennis Chambers and Clare Valentine. Flower bearers were members of the senior class of 1962 of Lyons-Muir Community school of which Neil was a member. Honorary bearers were members of Company C.1st Battalion of the 4th Marine Division Reserve Unit of Lansing. Also assisting as honorary escorts was Gerard Horrocks American Legion of Ionia. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery, Muir.
