Francis Potter was born in Herkimer county, state of New York, March 8th, 1801 and lived in that state until he was 43 years of age, when he removed to Michigan. He bought a quarter section of land at what is now called Potters corners in Keene, and lived there twelve years. He then sold out and went to Cass county, Mich., and while there made a public profession of religion, and was baptized and joined the Baptist church. After his return to Ionia county where he located in Easton, he did not unite with any religious society, but ever remained a firm believer in the teaching of the bible. He was father of six children, one boy and five girls, four of whom, Mrs. Noble Strong, Mrs. Joel Andrews, Mrs. Samuel Strong and Mrs. Daniels, survive him. He buried his daughter Adelia, aged 21 years, before his return to Ionia. His son William died two years ago at his residence in Cass county, at the age of fifty-eight.
