Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Lake Odessa Congregational church for Mrs. Hugh Potts, 78, who died Thursday night, August 16, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alfred Root, Lake Odessa. Mrs. Potts was one of the true pioneers of the village, having with her husband, wrested a home from the wilds on the shores of Jordan lake when the Indians still roamed through the neighborhood. Mrs. Potts and her husband, who preceded her in death a few years ago, during the days when they were first married had many unusual experiences with the Indians and many were the tales of the Indians and their activities in that far day they told from time to time. It was at the time they were clearing land that an Indian village still existed near the cemetery at the east end of Jordan lake and the red-skinned natives were plentiful throughout that entire section of the county. Mrs. Potts is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Root, Mrs. Edna Walsh, Grand Ledge and Mrs. Mattie Scheidt, Kutztown, Penn.
