Powell, 80, died Friday at 4:15 p.m. at Blodgett Memorial hospital of injuries suffered in an automobile accident on July 16 near Ada. She had been a patient at the hospital since that time. Born June 25, 1861, daughter of Nelson J. Austin of Yorkville, in Kendall County, Illinois, she spent the early years of her life in that vicinity. On her 24th birthday she became the bride of Rev. Henry W. Powell and they began their married life at Lowell where he was pastor of the Baptist church. They later moved to Traverse City and then to Mason where he was minister of the Baptist churches in those cities. He retired from the ministry and in 1898 they moved to Ionia where they purchased a farm. He continued to serve as a substitute minister at the Sebewa and Lyons Baptist churches until his death in 1928. Mrs. Powell has made her home with her son, J. Nelson Powell, since 1932. Mrs. Powell was a member of the Ionia First Baptist church, the Ella Huchins circle, the Dorcas society, Order of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Surviving are: one son, J. Nelson Powell of Ionia; two grandchildren, Maurice Powell of Lansing and Miss Hollis Powell of Wyandotte; and one brother, J. C. Austin, of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Stone funeral home with Rev. George Woolcock of the Baptist church officiating. Interment will be at Highland Park cemetery. Subsequent Publication: Monday, September 29, 1941 Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. from the Stone funeral home Sunday for Mrs. Mary Powell, 80, who died Friday at Grand Rapids Blodgett Memorial hospital. Rev. George Woolcock officiated, and interment was at Highland Park cemetery. Bearers were Herbert E. Powell, Stanley Powell, Edward Krainbrink, Claude Heald, Elmer Cowan and John Toutenhoofd. Attending the services from out of town were Miss Hollis Powell of Wyandotte, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Powell and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Harrison of Lansing, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Garlock, Mrs. Frank Normington, Mrs. Conrad Churchill and Andrew Goodwin of Carson City.
