Nov. 7, 2009 Mary L. Powell, age 52, passed away on Friday, Nov. 6, at her home with her family at her side, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 27, 1957, in Lansing, the daughter of Francis and Joyce (Palimeter) Densmore. Mary has been a resident of the Sheridan area since 1988, formerly of Portland. She was formerly employed at Meijers, where she made many lasting friendships. During her illness, she found many friends in Hospice of Michigan and wanted to thank them for their dedication and caring. The family is especially grateful to her husband Jan’s employer, Northland-Marvel for their exceptional consideration in allowing the family to spend time together in these final weeks. On Nov. 1, 1986, she was married to Jan A. Powell in Sheridan and he survives in addition to their children, Nate (Rebecca) Buck of Portland, Dana (Jeff) Jensen of Gowen, Taryn Powell of Belding and Michael Rohn of Stanton; four grandchildren, Bryce Buck, Britney Buck, Kennedy Jensen and Peyton Jensen; four sisters, Sister Diane Densmore of Taylor, Cheryl Pline of Grand Ledge, Marlene (Dave) Simon of Portland, Linda (Brent Hadfield) Wheeler of Vermontville; two brothers, Dave (Tina) Densmore of Portland and Tom (Cathy) Densmore of Portland and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces-and-nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Joyce Densmore, her father-and-mother-in-law, Ray and Betty Powell and a son, Trevor Ross Buck. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Shiloh Community Church, Orleans with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Sheridan. Visitation is being held on Monday, Nov. 9 from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home with a rosary service following the visitation, led by her sister, Sister Diane Densmore. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested for those desiring to do so, that memorial considerations can be made to the Central Montcalm girls’ softball program.
