The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Tuesday, October 1, 1974


Mrs. Fern E. Powell, 90, of 316 East Lincoln died Monday at her home.  Born in 
McPherson county, S.D., September 26, 1884, she was the daughter of Dewey and 
Flora Hoxie Parks.  When six she moved to Michigan.  February 14, 1943, she was 
married in Muir to J. Nelson Powell and he died in 1963.

She was a member of the Mothers Study club, charter member of the Gleaners 
Association, member of the First United Methodist church, its Mrs. Morrall’s 
Sunday school class and the Afternoon circle of the church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Pauline Lewis of Muir; step-daughter, Hollis 
Powell of Trenton; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist 
church.  Charles Fullmer will officiate and interment will be at Easton 
cemetery.  Family will be at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 
9 p.m.  A memorial has been established for the First United Methodist church 
of Ionia or the Muir Presbyterian church.  Bearers will be Kendall Rogers, 
William Scott, Lloyd Kitchens, William Johnson, William Hansbarger and Clark 
Hoxie.
