Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, 29 Dec 1960

William F. Powell, 71, a lifelong resident of Ionia, died early Thursday morning
at Ionia County Memorial hospital where he had been a patient since Monday.  He
resided at 710 West Washington street.

Mr. Powell attended SS. Peter and Paul school and was employed for many years at
the Pere Marquette car shop, Hayes Ionia body shop and General Motors AC plant.
 At the time of his retirement six years ago he was employed at General Motors
in Grand Rapids.

A resident of Ionia all his life, Mr. Powell was born April 21, 1889, the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Powell, and was married in 1916 to the former Kathryn Hackett.

Mr. Powell was a former member of National Guard Company E and served with the
Mexican Border Campaign in 1916.

He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul church.

Surviving besides his wife, Kathryn, are three sons, William Powell of Adrian,
Louis of Lansing, and Fred of Ionia; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Antoinette)
Guidi of Portland, and Mrs. Merlin (Kathryn) Van Ee of Vienna, Va.; five
sisters, Mrs. Frank Grescoviak of Ionia, Mrs. Anthony Funk and Mrs. Gus Makowski
of Grand Rapids, Sister Mary Walter of Mt. Morris and Sister Mary Leonita of
Wayne; two brothers, Joseph Powell of Ionia, and Adam Powell of Flint and 10
grandchildren.

Rosary will be recited at Phelps funeral chapel Friday evening at 7:30.  Funeral
service will be conducted at SS. Peter and Paul church at 10 a.m. Saturday with
interment at Mt. Olivet cemetery.
