Ionia Sentinel Standard, 7 Nov 1979

Basil U. Powers, 79, of 2309 Valentine St. NW, Grand Rapids, died Tuesday at St.
Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.  He was born March 26, 1900, in Farwell, Mi., the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Powers.  He was married in Indiana to Ann Vargo on Feb.
27, 1952.  He was a barber in Grand Rapids for many years.  He was a veteran of
World War I serving with the Army.

Survivors include his wife, Ann; one step-son, Jacob Beck of Zion, Ill.; one
daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Bull of Flint; one step daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Malone of
Gaines, Mi.; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Myers-Roetman Funeral Home.
 Burial will be in the Balcom Cemetery.  Family will receive friends and relatives
at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m.
and 7 to 9 p.m.
