Sentinel-Std. - Monday, Feb. 27, 1984

IONIA- William Frank Powers, 75, of Ionia died Sunday evening in Ionia County 
Memorial Hospital.

Bornin Lansing, October 29, 1906, he was the son of William and Frances Hyder 
Powers. He graduated from St. Mary's High School, Lansing in 1927.

He was for many years employed at Marshall-Wright Lumber Co., and served as 
Ionia City Tax Assessor for three years before his retirement in 1974.

He was married to Margaret (Peg) Thatcher in Angola, Ind., in 1932, and they  
made their home in the Ionia area all their married life.

He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church, a former member of Ionia Elks 
Lodge, and an active member of Ionia Lions Club.

Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Nancy German of Pekin, Ill., and 
Patricia Calflin of Mason, one son, James Powers of Spring Lake; six grandsons 
and three great grandsons; and one sister, Kathryn Powers of Lansing. Two 
brothers, Martin and Paul, preceded him in death. 

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Nixon of 
Ionia First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Scriptural rosary services will be held Tuesday at Leddick Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Ionia County Unit of the American 
Cancer Society, in the care of the funeral home.

The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
