Powers, 77, of 531 West Riverside drive, died Wednesday morning at the Sheridan Community hospital after being a patient two weeks. Born at Green River, Wyoming, October 13, 1897, he was the son of James and Charlotte Rice Powers. The family moved to Cadillac where he graduated from high school. He also graduated from Ferris Institute at Big Rapids. He served with the army in World War I and returned to make his home at Cadillac and later at Morley before coming to live at Ionia in 1938. He was employed by the Ionia state hospital where he worked 24 years, retiring as chief engineer in December of 1962. His wife, Gertrude, died September 11, 1974. He was a member and past master of the Ionia Lodge F&AM member and past high priest of the Ionia lodge, RAM, and honorary member of the Masonic lodges of Sunfield, Portland Lowell. Among his survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Elenita Leonard of Ionia; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Full Masonic services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Leddick funeral home. Interment will be at the Balcom cemetery.
