Mrs. Kristene K. Pranger, 88, of 362 W. Woodland, Hastings, formerly of Lake 
Odessa, died Friday evening in Barry County Medical Care Facility in 
Hastings.  She was born July 1, 1892 in Platte, S.D., the daughter of Garret 
and Mary DeVries Nies.  She graduated from Platte High School in 1912 and 
taught in the Platte school system for three years following.

She was married on February 15, 1915 in Platte to Rein Pranger.  He died 
January 5, 1958.  They made their home in South Dakota until 1938 when they 
moved to Portland, where they lived until 1951, when they moved to Grand 
Rapids.  After her husband’s death, Mrs. Pranger made her home in Lake 
Odessa.  

She had a lifelong interest in music and played both organ and piano in 
churches, funeral homes, and other places wherever she lived.  A charter 
member of the Lake Odessa Christian Reformed Church, Mrs. Pranger was a past 
member of Blue Star Mothers and Lake Odessa Senior Citizens.

She is survived by two daughters and three sons; Mrs. Leo (Margery) Carr of 
Lake Odessa, Mrs. Ronald (Arlene) Whaten of Grand Rapids; Sherman of Portland, 
Raymond of Lake Odessa, and Kenneth of Harrison.  Thirteen grandchildren and 
16 great-grandchildren also survive, as well as six sisters-in-law and one 
brother-in-law.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Lake Odessa Christian 
Reformed Church, the Rev. Fred Bultman officiating.  Burial will be in 
Grandville Cemetery.  Members of the family will receive visitors and guests 
at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
