Preston, 59, died early this morning at his home on Looking Glass avenue, following an illness of the past three years. Funeral services will be held from the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be made in Portland cemetery. Mr. Preston was well known as a painter and decorator, having followed that vocation for a number of years until three years ago since which time illness forced him to lead a retired life. He was born in Portland, September 5, 1875, the son of George Edward and Diana Taylor Preston, early pioneer settlers of this vicinity. On June 28, 1899 he was united in marriage to Miss Iva Scofield, to which union five children were born, one daughter, Lenora passing away October 9, 1917 when 15 years of age. Mr. Preston was always active in politics and at one time served several terms as village clerk. He was a member of the Equitable Reserve Association. Besides the widow four children survive. They are Cecil of Detroit; Boyd of Charlotte; Edgar and Miss Edna at home, and one grandchild. One half-brother also survives, Charles D. Preston, of Wenatchet, Wash.
