THAD B. PRESTON DIES AT HOME HERE Beloved and Highly Respected Woman Victim of Stroke of Apoplexy. A pall of sorrow was cast over the entire community Saturday morning when word was passed along of the sudden death of Mrs. Thad B. Preston, who succumbed to a stroke of apoplexy at her home on East Lafayette street, at about 7 o'clock this morning, as she was preparing to arise. Mrs. Preston apparently had been enjoying good health, and her death came as a distinct shock to her family and friends. Mrs. Preston was unusually active in the affairs o the Church of Christ, was a member o the Good Will club, the women's association of the Country club, and the Woman's Literary club. She is survived by her husband, who is prominently identified in political and financial circles throughout the state: and one son, Phillips, who is on his way here from New York. Another son, Thede, died several years ago. On his return from Detroit at nine o'clock last night there was a telegram for Mr. Preston from Phillips, saying he would reach home Saturday night or Sunday morning, and they discussed when they would go to Grand Rapids to meet him. She also had three or four letters that had come during the day, expressing thanks for gifts, which they both discussed together, all of which combined to make her unusually happy and buoyant. She seemed unusually well. Mr. Preston called her for her bath this morning and found her sitting on the side of her bed leaning over with her hands holding her head - dead. Her health had been unusually good and without the slightest premonition of any physical trouble of any kind. Her gentleness of manner, her sweetness of disposition, and her complete indifference to class distinction or social position made her probably the most beloved woman in Ionia. Funeral arrangements have not as yet been completed, but will probably be held on Tuesday.
