Preston, of 256 Lafayette street, died at the home of Dr. and Mrs. S. Penoyer of South Haven Thursday, Feb. 19, where she had been for the past three weeks. Miss Preston, prominent in state library circles, was the first librarian at the Ionia Hall-Fowler Memorial library. She was born April 19, 1874, in Ionia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clark A. Preston. She was a graduate of Ionia high school in the class of 190. She attended the University of Michigan and then returned to Ionia to teach school. Miss Preston attended a library school in Philadelphia, returning to Michigan to be employed by the state establishing state libraries in small communities. Moved to Ann Arbor It was about that time that she became librarian at the Ionia library. Later she moved to Ann Arbor to be librarian for the University of Michigan until her retirement. Miss Preston was a member of the Ann Arbor Church of Christ, the Ann Arbor Business and Professional Women's club and of the Daughters of Isabella. Surviving is a nephew, Phillip, of Lansing. The body will be at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home until Monday noon when it will be taken to the First Christian church. Funeral services held at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Court O. Adams officiating. Burial will be in the family lot, Highland Park cemetery. Nina K. Preston Tuesday, Sentinel-Std. Feb. 24, 1953 Services for Miss Nina K. Preston, Ionia Hall-Fowler Memorial library's first librarian, who died Thursday were held Monday afternoon at the First Christian church. The Rev. Court O. Adams assisted by the Rev. George Barger of Ann Arbor officiated. Bearers were Frank E. Hall, Geer Smith, Raymond Coon, Herbert Hasselbring, Martin D. McNamara and Jack Jones. Mrs. Mable Bloomer was at the organ. Interment was in the family lot, Highland Park cemetery. Attending the services from away were Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Preston and Mrs. Don Welsh of Lansing; Dr. and Mrs. C. L. Penoyer, Mr. and Mrs. John Paquin, Mrs. Frances Long, and Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin M. Clark of South Haven; Mrs. James Drew and Mrs. Allen Lillis of Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Jones of Saranac; Grace Rash, Rose Rugert, Virginia Tibbals, Fredericka B. Gillette, Clover Flanders, V. Foster, Edith Erlewine, F. L. D. Goodrich and Mr. and Mrs. S. W. McAllister of Detroit. Preston, Nina K. Feb. 21, 1953 Ionia - Funeral services for Miss Nina K. Preston, 79, first city librarian here and member of a prominent Ionia family, will be held at the First Christian church at 2 Monday. Burial in Highland Park cemetery. Miss Preston died late Thursday at the home of Dr. and Mrs. S. Penoyer in South Haven. She had been their guest the last three weeks and after an illness that started a month ago. Worked at M. Library. Miss Preston was active in library work most of her life. She was a librarian for the University of Michigan until her retirement several years ago. Before that she traveled through Michigan for several years setting up libraries in the smaller communities. She started her library work with the Hall-Fowler City library at Ionia and was the first librarian in charge of that institution. She was born in Ionia, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clark A. Preston. A brother was Thad Preston, a prominent Ionia banker and local political leader, who died nearly 20 years ago. She graduated from Ionia High school in 190 and attended the University of Michigan. She then taught school for a short time here, but subsequently became interested in library work and took schooling in that in Philadelphia, Pa. After library work here and through the state she then moved to Ann Arbor to become a University of Michigan librarian. She made her home in Ionia in the summer vacation period.
