Burial was made in the East Sebewa cemetery. Uzell was a student in the Portland high school, having entered the freshman class last September. He was well known and had many friends in this community, especially among the school students, as well as in Sebewa where he lived. The accident occurred while he, with his younger brother, Harold, were hunting in Ernest Reed’s woods. Uzell saw a squirrel in a tree and in order to get a better view of the animal started to back up a few paces, at the same time taking aim. In stepping backward he failed to see a log behind him which tripped him, throwing him to the ground, the gun being discharged as he fell. The charge struck him in the jaw and entered the head. His brother Harold, 12 years of age, his sole companion at the time, attempted to revive him with water and to stop the flow of blood, but death had been practically instantaneous. When his attempts failed to revive his brother, Harold summoned Mr. Reed, but the boy was past aid. Many of the Portland high students attended the funeral of their classmate whose untimely death cast a mantle of gloom over the entire school.
