May 11, 1892 Death of Mrs. John Probert. Mary J., wife of John Probert of this township, died at her home north of town on Wednesday, the 4th inst., aged 65 years. Mrs. Probert was a native of Huron county, Ohio, and came to Portland in 1836, and forty-eight years ago was married to her husband, who survives her, in this township, where they have continually resided ever since. Besides her husband she leaves four sons – James, of Odessa, Cyrus, of Portland, Mark, of Lyons, and Eddie, of Grand Rapids, to mourn her death. The funeral services were conducted from the later home of the deceased on Friday last, by Rev. C.W. Bird of the Congregational church, of which the deceased was a member and were attended by a large number of relatives, friends and neighbors. The remains were laid to rest in Portland cemetery by the side of a daughter already sleeping there. The family of the deceased have the sympathy of a large circle of acquaintances in their affliction.
