Pryer, who died early that morning a few hours after suffering a stroke at his farm home southeast of this village in Danby township. Taken ill four weeks ago Dr. Pryer was taken to a Lansing hospital suffering with severe head pains. Several days later he had so far improved that he was brought to his home where he continued to gain in health and Saturday afternoon was able to come to town. Telling his family he was feeling fine he was about all day Sunday and that evening suffered the stroke, his death following early Monday morning. Dr. Pryer was born in Danby township 51 years ago on the farm adjoining that where his death occurred. He was the son of the late William H. Pryer, one of Danby’s early pioneer settlers, who passed away last September. For a number of years he had been assistant director in the state health laboratory at Lansing and prior to his taking that position had been connected with such departments in Detroit and Ann Arbor. He was regarded as a bacteriological authority and one of the state’s most valuable workers in that field and had charge of the production of smallpox and rabies vaccine in the state laboratory. Dr. Pryer was a World war veteran and a member of Dale E. Hyland post, American Legion. During the war he served as captain in a sanitary corps overseas. He was also a member of the Portland Masonic lodge. Besides the widow, who was formerly Miss Lucille Strong, Dr. Pryer is survived by two children, Miss Margretta and William, both at home. One sister, Mrs. Robert Brooks, of Portland, also survives. Funeral services were held from the home Wednesday afternoon under the auspices of the American Legion. Burial was made in Danby cemetery.
