Pryer Was One of County’s Prominent Residents Had Resided In Danby Twp. Over Three Quarters Of A Century This community regrets very deeply the death of William H. Pryer, prominent Ionia county farmer and for over three-quarters of a century a resident of Danby township, who passed away Saturday exactly three weeks from the hour when he was thrown from a load of straw by a team of run-away horses, his death occurring in the home in Danby which he had built and occupied for more than 50 years. Two trained nurses gave him constant care, and it was only his remarkable constitution that enabled him to survive for so long a time from the severe shock and injuries sustained from the accident. William H. Pryer was born February 26, 1849, at Williamsburg, a suburb of New York City, the son of Thomas C. and Cornelia Pryer. While a very young child he was brought to Michigan by his parents, who settled in Danby when the woods were so dense that a load of logs drawn for building the first house were so completely lost that they were not located without difficulty. He was the next to the eldest in a family of seven children, only one of whom remains, Charles Pryer, of Danby. On New Year’s day, 1874, he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Woodin, of Danby, who died eighteen years ago. To this marriage were born five children, a daughter who died in infancy, Blanche (Mrs. Robert Brooks), Thomas C. who died in Nunica two years ago; Roy W., and Pearl (Mrs. Guy Peake), who died in 1929. Mr. Pryer was a man of highest character and a highly respected citizen of his community. He held various public offices and was for more than 20 years a member of the county poor commission. He was a Golden Sheaf member of Danby Grange, in which he always took the greatest interest. He is survived by his brother, Charles; daughter Blanche; son, Roy, and by twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the home Tuesday with Rev. John Stewart officiating. Interment was in Danby cemetery, with Reuben Graft, Elmer McLean, Eugene Lyon, Joseph and Anthony Williams and John Butler acting as pall- bearers. Relatives were present from Detroit, Flint, Ann Arbor, Ionia, Nunica and Grand Rapids.
