Pung, 70, of Ionia died Saturday in St. Mary’s Hospital, Grand Rapids. Born in Westphalia May 24, 1913, he was the son of Joseph and Katherine Gray Pung. He had made his home in Ionia, for the past 36 years, having previously lived in Portland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II. He was employed by Yeomans Dairy from 1947 until its close and then worked for 15 years for Michigan Cigar Co., retiring in 1975. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church, the Ionia Moose and was a former member of Ionia Elks. He was married to the former Dorothy Decker; she survives him. Also surviving are: a son, Robert, of Indio, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Arlinda) Cusack of Ionia; three grandchildren; one brother, Fred Pung, of Chula Vista, Calif.; and one sister, Magdalyn Pung of Portland. Cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral home hours. Private memorial services will be held at SS. Peter and Paul Church at a later date. A memorial has been established for the Ionia County Unit of the American Cancer Society, in the care of Leddick Funeral Home, which made arrangements.
