Portland Review & Observer July 1, 1971
Ernest W. Pung, 74 years of 438 Center Street, passed away at St. Lawrence 
Hospital on June 23. Born in Westphalia on December 13, 1896, he had been a 
resident of this area all his life. He was a World War 1 Veteran and a member of 
the American Legion. 
He is survived by two brothers, Herman of Portland and Richard of Eagle, a  
sister, Catherine Carpenter of Ionia.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Burial 
was in the Portland cemetery. Military services at the Graveside were held by 
the Dale Hyland Post 129. Rosary was Friday evening at Neller Funeral Home.
Pall bearers were Richard Pung, Jr., Roger Pung, Charles Pung Jr. , James Pung, 
John Simons and James Hayden.
