May 14 & Thurs. May 21, 1921 DESPONDENCY CAUSE OF PURDUN HANGING Ready for Church Sunday, Takes Life in Garage, Leaves Wife and Three Daughters After having nearly finished his preparation for church, Clyde Purdun, who lives near the Tamarac church, went into his garage Sunday and hung himself to a timber there. He had written a note saying, Goodbye mother and children I have gone to rest.” which caused a search to be made and the body found as stated above when the mother and daughter returned from church. It is said Mr. Purdun had become despondent on account of not being able to pay his taxes and had threatened to take his life but they did not think when they left that he seemed depressed in particular, so thought it safe to leave. He was 63 years of age, and had lived for many years on the farm four miles southwest of this village, where his life ended. He leaves besides his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Velma Jarsifer of Woodland, Mrs. Gladys Day of Portland and Mrs. Oma Reed of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Leon of Lake Odessa, and Alva, who lives somewhere in the west; and one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Peets of Lansing. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Tamarac Church and burial was in lakeside cemetery. Lake O Wave Thurs. May 21, 1931 OBITUARY OF CLYDE PURDUN Clyde William Purdun, son of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Purdun, was born in Odessa township, December 8, 1867, and died May 10, 1931, at the age of 63 years, five months and two days. He was married to Jennie Bare, September 13, 1888. Three daughters were born to this union, Velma B. Jarstfer, at home; Mrs. Oma Reed of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Frank Day of Portland. He was converted and joined the Tamarac U.B. church in 1914 where he has been a loyal, faithful member ever since. For some time failing health and the financial outlook prayed upon his mind and made him despondent which accounts for his unusual death. He was found in the shed on the return of his wife and daughter from church and a note was found on the table written by him explaining his taking his own life. He was a kind, loving husband and father, always thinking of others before himself. He will be greatly missed by his wife, his three daughters and the eleven grandchildren with one great-grandchild that he leaves. The funeral was held at the church of his choice, his pastor Rev. R.A. Hoffman preached and a former pastor, Rev. and Mrs. Verne Beardsley sang. Burial was at lakeside cemetery. Those from out of town to attend the funeral were; Mrs. J. Bare and son Arthur and wife, Mrs. Glenna Plowman, Mrs. Hettie Chase of St. Johns; Mr. and Mrs. D.U. LePard and daughter Lenna, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob LePard and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bowls, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Parr, Edna Meece, William Ninker, Ray Minker, and Frank Murphy of Grand Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Cass of Charlotte; Mr. and Mrs. S.A.
