Purdy was born in St. Lawrence county, New York and departed from this life April 18, 1914 being 70 years of age last August. He came to Otisco when 7 years of age with his parents, John D. Purdy and lived here the rest of his life. He was married in 1860 to Elizabeth Smith of Grattan. To this union were born two children Agnes and Eva. His daughter Eva having died about 7 years ago and his wife the 28th of last May. He enlisted in Company B. 25th Michigan Infantry and served three years. He leaves beside his daughter Agnes one sister, Mrs. Lillian Dumon, and one brother John Purdy. Two granddaughters, Mrs. Lizzie Spencer and Mrs. Pearl Cotter and one great grandchild, Gerald Cotter. The funeral was held at the house Monday at 2 o’clock. Rev. Ellis of Ashley officiated and Mrs. Geo. Hoppough, Mrs. Deck Hoppough and Ed. Insley, furnished the music. Those from away who attended the funeral were: Willis and Clyde Purdy and wives of Mosely, Osmer Andrews of Mosley, Chas. Dumon of Evart, Harry Osgood of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Orin Purdy and J.M. York of Orleans, Fred Purdy and wife, Loren Purdy and Winnie Trimble of Belding.
