Ionia Shopper’s Guide – Jan. 9, 2010

Heidi Marie Purkey, age 27, passed peacefully from the hands of her earthly 
father to the arms of her heavenly Father, on Saturday, January 2, 2010. Born 
July 21, 1982, she was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, mother, sister, 
niece, cousin, aunt and friend of many. A beautiful soul with a smile that 
could light up a room, Heidi graduated from Ionia High School in 2000, and 
graced her class with her beauty as their homecoming queen. After graduation 
from high school, Heidi attended ITT Tech where she obtained her Associate’s 
Degree in Computer Aided Design. A mother who explored the world through her 
daughter’s eyes, Heidi brought into the world her beautiful daughter, Hanna 
Bree Cartmell on August 22, 2006. Heidi gave only unconditional love to those 
around her and will be missed greatly by those she has left behind. She is 
survived by her daughter, Hanna Cartmell; parents, Mark (Brenda) Purkey and 
Hanna (Ken) Bengel; grandparents, James (Beverly) Purkey; sister, Stacey 
Purkey; brothers: James Purkey and Nick Purkey; stepbrothers: Jason Mahan, 
Brandon (Guzy) Johnson, Travis Johnson; stepsister, Jamie (Jeremy) Ralph; 
aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends. Heidi was preceded 
in death by her grandparents, Bob (Nancy) Guernsey. There will be a memorial 
service for Heidi on Saturday, January 23 with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and the 
service at 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh Community Church. There will be a luncheon 
immediately following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family 
has requested that memorial contributions be made to a college fund established 
for Heidi’s daughter, Hanna, at the Independent Bank, Ionia.
