July 12, 2013 BELDING- Jacob E. "Jake" Qualls, 51, of Belding, formerly of Ava, Ill., died on July 9, 2013 at home. Jake was born on Nov. 26, 1961, in Murphysboro, Ill., the son of James K. and Doris Jean (Cheatham) Qualls. Jake was a fan of baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved watching NASCAR, helping his wife with her animal rescue and spending time tubing on the Muskegon River with his wife and nephew. A truck driver by trade, Jake worked for Glister Mary Lee, Bost Truck Service and Southern Illinois Motor Xpress before retiring in 2000 due to illness. Jake is loved and survived by his wife, Maria Roomsburg Qualls; his father; a brother, Jerry (Suzan) Qualls of Willisville, Ill.; a sister, Jean Elaine (Brian Kuecker) of Ava, Ill.; sister in law, Denise Phenix of Belding; his nephews, Brian (Crystal) Towle, Brett (Jessica) Towle, Bradley Towle all of Ava, Ill., Donald Phenix of Belding; a niece, Barbara Jean Sprague Wilcox of Belding; a great nephew and great nieces as well as many aunts and uncles. He is preceded in death by his mother; a brother, Jimmy Qualls; a sister, Jeanett Qualls; his grandparents, Ezra and Helen Cheatham and Turner and Florence Qualls; and his mother and father-in-law, Barbara Jean and Milford D. Roomsburg. Funeral services will be noon held on Saturday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding with visitation on e hour prior to the service, burial will take place at a later date in Belding. the family is asking that, instead of flowers to contribute memorials that can be made to the wishes of the family or the Wexford County Animal Control.
