Borden post, No 211, G.A.R., of which deceased was a member, turned out about 30 strong, under Commander J. J. Phelps, furnishing bearers and acting as escort for the remains from the late residence to the church. A large number of citizens, mostly residents of the Fourth ward, were at the church. The M.E. church choir furnished the music. Rev. Mr. Lennox read the twelfth of Romans, a favorite chapter of the deceased, and his remarks were very appropriate and touching. The interment was in Highland Park cemetery. John W. Quayle was born in Rochester, N.Y., Aug. 30, 1835. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss. He was a good husband and a kind father, honest and upright in all of his dealings with his fellow companions. He was a true and faithful soldier of the union, and defended his country and flag in the hour of peril. He was three years and one month in the service having enlisted in August, 1861, in the 11th Michigan infantry. He was at the siege at Atlanta and was wounded in September, 1864. He was in long and forced marches, hardships and privations and was in a number of battles. May he rest in peace, to join the Grand Army above, there to sing praises with his comrades.
