Quinn, D.V.M., 81, of Portland passed away Oct. 12, 2002. He was born in Huron County Feb. 6, 1921 the son of Martin and Laura (Malpass) Quinn. Mr. Quinn was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, past president of American Veterinary Medical Association, Michigan Veterinary Medical Association and the United States Animal Health Association. “Doc” was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1943 from Michigan State University. John enjoyed playing cards, traveling and wintering in Florida. He was an avid reader and gardener. Mr. Quinn was known for his sense of humor and his story telling. His family and friends were very important to him as well as being a proud member of the V.F.W.’s Dad’s Club. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Riley, Arthur, and Charles Quinn; sisters, Helen Markey and Anne Brown. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Arlis; children, Eileen (Ted) Kanemoto of Fairfield, Calif., Mary (David) Roderick of Westphalia, Riley (Fran) Quinn of Westphalia, Betsy (Gale) Rogers of Portland; Tim (Libbie) Quinn of Brentwood, Tenn., and Phil (Patti) Quinn of Portland; grandchildren, Eric and Leslie Kanemoto, Ellen, Claire, and Jason Roderick, Megan and Martin Quinn, Ann and Pat Rogers, Sarah, Nathan, and Anna Katherine Quinn, Dan and Emily Quinn; sisters, Lucille Harper, Clara McMann, Eileen (Norbert) Ruff, Betty McGowan, and Jean Talaski; many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass was celebrated by Rev. Charles D. Hall, Pastor Oct. 17 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Pall bearers were Donald Gross, John Moyer, Eric Kanemoto, Martin Quinn, Pat Rogers, Mark Talaski, Mike Talaski, Nathan Quinn. Inurnment followed at Portland Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland. Contributions may be made to the McRee Guest House at Ingham Regional Medical Center or the Ionia Area Hospice.
