August 5, 2016 LAURENCE JOHN "LARRY" QUINN 1946-2016 Laurence John "Larry" Quinn of Lansing, Michigan formerly of Saranac, MI, was born Larry Richard Haney on May 25, 1946 in Battle Creek, Michigan. He went home to be with the Lord after suffering a heart attack on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, at the age of 70. Larry boasted the he was "raised by nuns" at St. Vincent Home until his adoption by the Quinns at age 17. He attended Holy Cross, St. Mary, and graduated from O'Rafferty High school in 1965, where he excelled in leadership and sports. He began his postsecondary education at Michigan State University, then joined the United States Navy to serve two tours of duty in Vietnam before graduating from MSU. He was a devoted Spartan for his entire life. He retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections after 33 years as a correctional officer. He also participated in the sports of football, baseball and wrestling, as a player, coach at Saranac High School, and umpire and official for many years. Larry is survived by his wife, Rosemary (Fox) Quinn; children Jil Scheurer (Lance Hebert), Leonard Quinn, Trisha Boren, and Jamie Quinn; stepchildren Bianca Hara (Emmett), Elizabeth Miller (Derrick) and Phoebe Block; grandchildren Nicholas (Carly) (Jessica), Beau (Lillie), Victoria Scheurer; Alex Peabody; Ashton Quinn, Ariana Quinn, Drew Boren, and Gequan Muhqueed; step-grandchildren Alex and Will Miller, Patrick and Christopher Hara; great-grandchildren Jadeyn, Parker, Lane, Aiden, Myles, Weston, and Willow; stepfather Howard "Pappy" McClintic; siblings Gary (Julie) Haney, Fred Haney, Steena Girling, Helga Watson, Virginia (D. A.) Waite, Peggy (Roy) Albrecht, Lois Miller, Rita Starkey, Louis (Jean) Quinn, Mary (Mark) Christensen, Marlene(Mike) Buffmyer, Stephanie (Butch) Lamunyun, Maryann (Ron) Brokob, Kathy (Mike) Yuhas. Linda (Doyle) Adams, herb Haney, and frank Haney. He is also survived by sister-in-law Rita Haney, Beverly Garno, and Carolyn Fox; and brother-in-laws Rod Fox and Kenny Scott. Larry was preceded in death by his first wife Joyce (Scott) Quinn; stepson, Martin Block; parents Louis and Ruth Quinn and Melvin Haney and Jeanne (Curry) McClintic; siblings Riley Haney, Ronald Haney, David Quinn, Kay Quinn and Jacqueline Haney. Larry will be remembered for his love and loyalty to his family and friends, passion for sports, strong religious faith, and awesome sense of humor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 9, at St. Anthony's Catholic church in Saranac, MI with Father Mark Inglot celebrant. Rite of Committal Saranac Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac. Rosary will be 7 PM Monday at the Funeral home.
