Raby, an old and prominent resident of Orleans, died at his home, Monday. The deceased was born in Washtenaw county and with his parents came to his late home nearly fifty years ago where he has always resided. He was a staunch Republican and always took a lively interest in political affairs and township matters. His last sickness covered a period of about six months. He was a good citizen and kind neighbor and leaves a wife and two children, Jay Raby and Jennie Raby. The funeral was held at Green’s church Wednesday afternoon, Rev. O. J. Golden of this city conducting the service. He was the Banner’s Kiddville correspondent and we shall miss his letters. The procession which followed the remains was very large. ------------ John T. Raby who has been sick for several months died at his home in Orleans township about 5 o’clock Monday morning, June 14, aged 49 years. The deceased was born in an emigrant wagon between Washtenaw and Ionia counties, October 10, 1847, and was married to Sarah A. Gamble of Bellevue, Mich., October 7, 1869, moving directly to the farm where he resided until his death. In the death of Mr. Raby we lose a much valued neighbor and friend, a wife loses a faithful husband and the family a kind and indulgent father. Realizing that death was near he bade the family a sad farewell only a few hours before he passed away. The funeral was largely attended from the Green’s church, Wednesday, June 16, at 3 o’clock, Rev. O.J. Golden of Belding preaching an eloquent sermon from the text “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.” 1st Cor., 15th chapter, 19th verse. Mr. Raby leaves besides aced large circle of friends a wife and two children, J. Jay Raby and Jennie E. Raby to mourn his death.
